About
I grew up in a small town on Vancouver Island, in Canada, spending a lot of time outside on my own. At sixteen a friend hired me as her studio assistant and let me paint in her studio — that is where I understood what an art community is, and that this might be something I could do for a living. I live in Tampa now.
The work is half collage and half paint, and mostly intuitive: I might find a piece of paper that gives me an idea, or a wall with a shelf on it, and draw it fifteen minutes before I start painting. I want it to stay decorative — I get frustrated by paintings that tell you how to feel. The old paper and printed matter I pick up keep the colour in check, and I have shown paintings standing on shelves I made.
